Hi Folks,

Hope all is well.

Has anyone used the Drop Down Dependant List that are available from Version 4.03 onwards i think. I am currently on version 4.02 and was wondering how these drop down lists work and are they good?

thanks,
S

WWW

Nope, still on 4.0.2 - I haven't been convinced that it's worth handing over any more $s for the upgrades package as nothing much has changed with Esvon for quite a while now. But it would be an interesting feature nevertheless, for some sites anyway.

I've been using the 4.04 version of the dependent menus for a while now. They have worked pretty well for my purpose. You can see an example here on the Make/Model field.

I don't know if you are using the same field set for both cars and trucks, but I thought when I selected "truck" in the category, I wouldn't have to go through all the car models for selected make.

Thanks for the working demo. Looks good.

Are you using the same fieldset for cars and trucks as per Dave's question?

Yes, I am using the same field set for cars and trucks. I didn't want to have to input the same Makes multiple times and if I split up cars and trucks, I would also have to split up Vans/SUVs and other categories.

Just so you know, inputing all of the Makes/Models takes a good 8-10 hrs (at least the way I did it). Splitting them up will only add to that.

Another way you could approach it though would be to have a 3-level dependent menu and under each Make have a selection for Cars/Trucks/SUVs etc. That way they would only see the selections available for each kind of vehicle. This seems a little redundant though since they already selected the kind of vehicle from the Category.

I would have created a field set once with all the Makes/Models.  Duplicated that field set and then remove the selections that do not apply to the new field set.

Hind sight is 20/20.

I do like the advanced search.

Your site looks nice.
