I have always used php4 and am still using it on my other site. I am just starting to build a esvon classifieds site. I know they have had php5 out for a couple of years now and I thought I read talk about stopping all updates to php4 in the near future. Is this true? Should I go ahead and start with php5?

I'd say to go for it if you can - it'll save you converting later on as more hosting services migrate to 5. PHP5 is stable now and works well with EC - unless you're on version 2.7 as I discovered recently (not my site!).
